Did you know, 8th March is an International Women's Day? A day to celebrate women all around the world. Sounds huge, right? The theme for this year is #pledgeforparity. You can search the information, the campaign or the event on internationalwomansday.com.
Pledge for parity. It's kinda like a gender equality for me. I have been involved in these issues for about 5/6 years. Well, I am not that young as you thought. Haha.
It's quite interesting if we talk about a parity. An equality. I am not a feminist. I still have some thought about women and men can support each other to make a better life, a better environment. Hey, it will be bored if there are no men in my life. Haha. :P
For my own thought, it's important to women to get the same opportunity to access an education as same as men. Maybe in Indonesia, many young girls have been got an access to education as same as young boys. Some people give the questions: Why should women go to school Are they eventually will stay at home, taking care of the family? Is it important for them?
Well, I would say, YES. It doesn't matter you would be career women or full-time mommy at home, every woman should access the education. An African proverb says, “if we educate a boy, we educate one person. If we educate a girl, we educate a family – and a whole nation.” Women are not only about marry, pregnant, give birth and raise the children. Women also have to educate the children. Teach them to speak, to walk, to eat, to play. Even about manner, pray, dream. And also about subjects at school. Women's role is important in our life, isn't it? Did you realize?

Women must be given the education to build their family, their community and their nation. How can a woman give her child the best nutrition if they can't read? If they can't read nutrition information on food labels? How can a woman care for her sick child if they can't distinguish between medicine for a cough and fever? How can a woman manage her family financial if they can't count? It’s just a simple example.
From the literature that I read, as female education goes up, a host of societal indicators improve; population growth, infant mortality, and family health. Even they say, children of educated mothers (especially daughter) are more likely to go to school & have higher levels of educational attainment. (onlineschoolscenter.com)
An educated woman doesn't prepare to against man. They prepared to be a partner for the man. Did you hear about proverb; behind a successful man there is a woman who supports him? For my own thought, why must behind the man if a woman can stand in line with a man? Once again, I am not a feminist. But for me, a woman must have the opportunity as same as a man. Opportunity to learn, to speak, to argue. I believe if we can support each other, we can build a better place to live.
I was asking some of my male friend about education equality. Most of them agreed that women must have an access to get an education. They agreed that women can get a high education. But they concerned that the highest education that women get, don't forget about their main role as women.
It’s interesting yet complicated to discuss this issue. I have not shared about how the role of government for this matters. How about the local policies? Are local policies help us to make girls go to school? Or maybe it is not about the system, but a culture? Well, too many questions that should I find the answer. Hmm.. or you can share your own thought with me. Really happy to discuss it. :)
And then, Happy International Women’s Day, fellas!! :)
Have a great day,
Liris
